NY Assembly Votes for Marriage Equality

As reported in the New York Times, the New York state Assembly has voted 89-52 in favor of a bill opening civil marriage to same-sex couples. Proponents and opponents of the measure, which Governor Patterson supports, are now concentrating their efforts on the state Senate, where the defeat or passage of the bill is uncertain.
